High achieving Anxiety
Do you feel like you are somehow both overachieving in life and underachieving at the same time? Do you often feel as though you have done good or, even, great things that people recognize you for but somehow still feel unfulfilled. You may often feel stuck in a loop of high motivation and achievement then feelings of failure or being behind. Maybe you are assertive and articulate with your feelings at times but also struggle with setting or holding boundaries at other times. You try really hard and show up in most, if not all, areas of your life but constantly feel as though it is never enough.
You likely struggle with High Achieving Anxiety which can also be called High Functioning Anxiety. Someone who does a lot and has achieved at least some success but never feels good about yourself or the things you have achieved for too long. There are ways to address these feelings and start to enjoy the life you have actually worked pretty hard to build. It is possible to feel settled and more at peace with yourself. It is also possible to see yourself more like the person you are.
Therapy can help you discover new ways of being as well as skills to help you release general overthinking or overly negative ways of thinking. Many of the symptoms of anxiety can pair often with achieving goals. Overthinking, increased need to feel in control, and intense attention to detail are all behaviors that can accompany experiences of success. However, an inability to temper these practices and find balance in life can make for a very unpleasant journey and lead to feelings of overwhelm, persistent unhappiness, and general dissatisfaction in the life you have created. Therapy can help you begin to find your balance of both progress and peace.
